The trapdoor entrance is the southeast of the district, on the grass directly east of Caracalla's pyre. You'll find a few chests in the catacomb, but no quests take place here and there are no unique or set items within. Exploration of the catacomb is purely optional, and due to the relatively low level of enemies, is most beneficial in terms of experience if done early in the game. (Note: In Divinity II: Ego Draconis the entrance the Abandoned Catacomb is selectable but locked, without a key to be found. Even if unlocked using the game's console commands, attempting to enter does nothing.)
Head south from the entrance and lockpick the chest along the eastern wall for random loot. Continue south, fighting the undead along the way. When you reach the east-west-north intersection, proceed east. Towards the end up the tunnel, climb the small wooden staircase and open the unlocked chest on the northern platform.
Return to the intersection and continue west. Go up the incline as it curves north. At the far end of this tunnel is an unlocked golden chest containing more random loot.
All enemies are level 36:
- Chest – locked, lockpickable, random loot
- Chest – unlocked, random loot
- Golden Chest – unlocked, random loot
